Kitchen Makeover

Before!
I've been wanting to make curtains for my kitchen for awhile but could never find fabric that screamed perfect until now.  I had wooden blinds in there but found out quickly that my cat Lucy liked them more than I did.  She enjoyed chewing the string that each piece sits on...Yay.  We quickly came to the conclusion that we needed an alternative.  I found this great tutorial for Roman Shades on Jen Duncan's What's New blog.  Worked out perfectly!!

The fabric I fell in love with is called Pretty Bird which I purchased from Stitches N' Giggles.  Lori has some great inventory!

Mom, Grandma and my BFF Jill came to my house for the day on Saturday and we finished everything in 10 hours!

After!!
We use blackout fabric on the back so you can't see through the shades at night.
Mom did the whole custom table cover and it turned out beautiful.  We put batting and strips of shelf lining underneath to keep it from sliding around.  Now all I need to do is paint a terracotta pot purple for the little plant.

  1. That is super cute! Great Job! It's still a little intimidating so i'll be "practicing" on the fabric from the curtains I already have. That way, if i screw up too bad, I won't be too sad. Thanks!

  2. Adorable and very inspirational. Thanks for posting. I found you from Jen's blog, which I found from MADE. I have a tricky bathroom corner that I have decided these are the right window treatment for. I just need to get to it! After seeing yours and Jen's windows I am even more convinced that I need to make these.

  3. I have been looking on line for the last 2 weeks for the cutest personal roman shades and your article on how to make them inspired me to give it a try. I do not sew at all.. but just bought a new house and have family coming to visit for the first time and want to impress them. Along with the other 1,000 project I have to do in 1 week yikes. Gotta love that pressure of performance. Thank you so much

  4. I'm on a budget and was given some material by a friend which was cool but there was not enough of it. Roman blinds came to mind. Your instructions were perfect for the job. I am now taking orders from friends who want some.
